FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why should I consider including OSI in my estate plans?
For more than half a century, OSI has partnered with communities throughout the eastern United States to protect the land that matters most for clean air and water and critical wildlife habitat, to create or expand welcoming places for all people to experience the wonders of nature, and to help communities address and mitigate the devastating impacts of extreme weather. By including OSI in your estate plans, you are helping us continue this work far into the future.
- How will the Open Space Institute (OSI) use my gift?
Unless otherwise directed by the donor or designated by our board, estate gifts to OSI support our annual operating needs. Unrestricted support funds the core aspects of our work, enabling OSI to protect land for clean air and water and critical habitat and to create or expand green spaces that bring people closer to nature. Learn more about our work HERE.
- Is there a minimum amount I can designate?
No! Every gift—no matter the size—makes a lasting impact on OSI’s work and helps us permanently protect the land we love and need.
- Can I give a restricted gift or give a gift other than cash?
In many cases, yes. However, we recommend contacting us first to ensure we can accept your gift.
- Do I need to tell OSI if I plan to include them in my estate plan?
You are under no obligation to tell us if you leave a gift to OSI in your estate plan. Your giving intentions are personal and confidential. However, we hope you will notify us so we can welcome you to The Legacy Society and properly thank you for your generous gift. Rest assured, we will always adhere to your wishes regarding public recognition for your gift.
We would love to discuss your estate plans. Do not hesitate to reach out to Lara Torsky, Senior Director of Individual Giving, at 845-460-3760 for information or if you have any questions.
